The stability of some types of solution for a set of equations representing a blood clotting model is examined using numerical methods of solving perturbation problems and the apparatus of adjoint equations. It is concluded that spiral waves are stable in this system, whereas traveling pulses are unstable at parameters corresponding to a chaotic regime in the punctual problem. 相似文献

Recently, ubiquitin was suggested as a promising anti‐inflammatory protein therapeutic. We found that a peptide fragment corresponding to the ubiquitin50–59 sequence (LEDGRTLSDY) possessed the immunosuppressive activity comparable with that of ubiquitin. CD and NMR spectroscopies were used to determine the conformational preferences of LEDGRTLSDY in solution. The peptide mixture, obtained by pepsin digestion of ubiquitin, was even more potent than the intact protein. Although the peptide exhibited a well‐defined conformation in methanol, its structure was distinct from the corresponding 50–59 fragment in the native ubiquitin molecule. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of salicylic acid (SA) (0.01, 0.1 and 1 mM) and cold on freezing tolerance (freezing injury and ice nucleation activity) were investigated in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum cv. Dogu-88) grown under control (20/18 °C for 15, 30 and 45-day) and cold (15/10 °C for 15-day, 10/5 °C for 30-day and 5/3 °C for 45-day) conditions. Cold acclimatisation caused a decrease of injury to leaf segments removed from the plants and subjected to freezing conditions. Exogenous SA also decreased freezing injury in the leaves grown under cold (15/10 °C) and control (15 and 30-day) conditions. Cold conditions (10/5 and 5/3 °C) caused an increase in ice nucleation activity by apoplastic proteins, which were isolated from the leaves. For the first time, it was shown that exogenous SA caused an increase in ice nucleation activity under cold (15/10 and 10/5 °C) and control conditions. These results show that salicylic acid can increase freezing tolerance in winter wheat leaves by affecting apoplastic proteins. 相似文献

Background
Amorphous silica particles with the primary dimensions of a few tens of nm, have been widely applied as additives in various fields including medicine and food. Especially, they have been widely applied in powders for making tablets and to coat tablets. However, their behavior and biological effects in the gastrointestinal tracts associated with oral administration remains unknown.Methods
Amorphous silica particles with diameters of 50, 100, and 200 nm were incubated in the fasted-state and fed-state simulated gastric and intestinal fluids. The sizes, intracellular transport into Caco-2 cells (model cells for intestinal absorption), the Caco-2 monolayer membrane permeability, and the cytotoxicity against Caco-2 cells were then evaluated for the silica particles.Results
Silica particles agglomerated in fed-state simultaneous intestinal fluids. The agglomeration and increased particles size inhibited the particles' absorption into the Caco-2 cells or particles' transport through the Caco-2 cells. The in vitro cytotoxicity of silica particles was not observed when the average size was larger than 100 nm, independent of the fluid and the concentration.Conclusion
Our study indicated the effect of diet on the agglomeration of silica particles. The sizes of silica particles affected the particles' absorption into or transport through the Caco-2 cells, and cytotoxicity in vitro, depending on the various biological fluids.General significance
The findings obtained from our study may offer valuable information to evaluate the behavior of silica particles in the gastrointestinal tracts or safety of medicines or foods containing these materials as additives. 相似文献106.
The fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) substrate 2 (FRS2) family proteins function as scaffolding adapters for receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). The FRS2α proteins interact with RTKs through the phosphotyrosine‐binding (PTB) domain and transfer signals from the activated receptors to downstream effector proteins. Here, we report the nuclear magnetic resonance structure of the FRS2α PTB domain bound to phosphorylated TrkB. The structure reveals that the FRS2α‐PTB domain is comprised of two distinct but adjacent pockets for its mutually exclusive interaction with either nonphosphorylated juxtamembrane region of the FGFR, or tyrosine phosphorylated peptides TrkA and TrkB. The new structural insights suggest rational design of selective small molecules through targeting of the two conjunct pockets in the FRS2α PTB domain. The salt-tolerant green alga Dunaliella has remarkable capability to survive in some extreme environments such as nitrogen starvation, which makes Dunaliella be a proper model for mining novel genes on nitrogen uptake or assimilation. In this study, a glutamine synthetase (GS) gene DvGS2 with amino acid identity of 72% to other homologous GS proteins, was isolated and characterized from Dunaliella viridis. Phylogenetic comparison with other GSs revealed that DvGS2 occupied an independent phylogenetic position. Expressional analysis in D. viridis cells under nitrogen starvation confirmed that DvGS2 increased its mRNA level in 12 h. Subcellular localization study and functional analysis in a GS-deficient Escherichia coli mutant proved that DvGS2 was a chloroplastic and functional GS enzyme. In order to investigate the potential application of DvGS2 in higher plants, the transgenic studies of DvGS2 in Arabidopsis thaliana were carried out. Results showed that the transgenic lines expressed the DvGS2 gene and demonstrated obviously enhanced root length (29%), fresh weight (40%–48% at two concentrations of nitrate supplies), stem length (21%), leaf size (39%) and silique number (44%) in contrast with the wild-type Arabidopsis. Furthermore, the transgenic lines had higher total nitrogen content (35%–43%), total GS activity (39%–45%) and soluble protein concentration (23%–24%) than the wild type. These results indicated that the overexpression of DvGS2 in A. thaliana resulted in higher biomass and the improvement of the host's nitrogen use efficiency. 相似文献

Solution‐based earth‐abundant Cu2ZnSn(Se,S)4 (CZTSSe) is proven to be a promising tool for thin‐film photovoltaic fabrication. Combining fully dissolved copper (Cu) and zinc/tin (Zn/Sn) hydrazinium constituents in an ethanolamine (EA) and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) solution mixture forms the CZTS precursor. All solutes in the precursor solution are intermixed on the molecular scale with excellent homogeneity. Sequential annealing steps under chalcogen vapor allow for enhanced grain growth while preventing the back contact from forming an excessively thick Mo(S,Se)2 layer. The resulting devices achieve power conversion efficiencies of 7.5% under 1 sun conditions. 相似文献
